News From The City of Decatur Planning Department

We hosted a meeting of the “Launch 2035” land use committee that is a regional group comprised of Limestone, Madison and Morgan County. The focus of this committee is on a multipurpose trail to be called  “Singing Trails”. It will eventually connect Calhoun Community College from Huntsville to Limestone County, Athens Alabama, the Wildlife refuge and Decatur on the Southside of the river. This spine will connect to all of the many trails in our various communities eventually connecting to the Florence region. This is a regional effort that ties into our OneDecatur plan and not only promotes Decatur but the entire region in a collaborative way. This project is in the early planning stages but much progress has been made by many dedicated people in our region. The crossing of the river is a focal point of a future study on the specific routing.
