Frances Tate is a true asset to The City of Decatur

Frances Tate graduated from the Certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Official (CAPZO) Program May 4, 2017.  Frances is an active community member.  To complete the training Frances completed the following UNA courses.

  • The Legal Foundation for Planning and Zoning in Alabama  (3.5 hours)
  • Powers, Duties, and Responsibilities of Planning Commissions and Boards of Adjustment  (3.5 hours)
  • Comprehensive Planning: How to Prepare, Update, and Implement Your Plan  (3.5 hours)
  • Basic Zoning and Subdivision Regulations  (3.5 hours)
  • Meeting Management and Dispute Resolution Workshop  (6 hours)
  • Community Planning in Alabama: A Primer for PC and BZA Members-Home Study Course (10 hours)

  

Frances has served two terms on the Board of Zoning Adjustment and is now serving her first term on the city Planning Commission. These are volunteer positions that she adds to her already busy schedule. Frances is an active member of the Zone One Committee where she has served as the secretary and kept minutes. Frances is one of the original members of the CBDO (Community Based Development Organization) that oversees the Seville Subdivision. She was part of the committee that selected the One Decatur Steering Committee and has faithfully attended the meetings. Frances is also a prolific and talented artist. Her work is helping us all remember and appreciate many of our historic building from both Old Town and West Town.

A Training Opportunity for our board members

The City of Decatur has scheduled training for Board of Zoning Adjustment Members and Planning Commission members. Member of these boards have been provided the opportunity to seek The Certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Official Program (CAPZO) coordinated through the University of North Alabama Continuing Education Department. The city was able to schedule the classes here in Decatur and they are taking place at the Turner Surles Center. The city is pleased to pay for and provide a location for our board members to receive this valuable training. The program is coordinated by Lavonne Gatlin and it taught by Melissa Hickman Bailey Planning Director for the City of Florence, AL. Completion of the following classes is required to achieve this certification.

Team Member Anniversary

Congratulations to Kim Stone Moody for successfully completing her fourth year of employment with the City of Decatur Planning Department.  Kim is the cheerful face you meet when you enter the City Hall Annex.  She is responsible for completion of the minutes of the Planning Commission, payroll and purchasing for the City Planning Department.  She ably helps everyone who enters the Annex get where they need to be.
